The Lion, the Lamb

Mo. 10/29/12: Genesis 49:1, 9 – 10                  What was Jacob’s prophetic blessing?
And Jacob called his sons and said, “Gather together, that I may tell you what shall befall you in the last days:
      Judah is a lion’s whelp;
      From the prey, my son, you have gone up.
      He bows down, he lies down as a lion;
      And as a lion, who shall rouse him?
      The scepter shall not depart from Judah,
      Nor a lawgiver from between his feet,
      Until Shiloh comes;
      And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.
What was Jacob’s prophetic blessing? Judah’s son would be a lion, a King.
Tu. 10/30/12: John 1:29                  What did John the Baptist proclaim?
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
What did John the Baptist proclaim? Jesus Christ was the Lamb of God.
We. 10/31/12: Mark 15:37, John 19:30                  What were Christ’s last words?
And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last.
So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
What were Christ’s last words? The Lamb’s work was finished!
Th. 11/1/12: Revelation 5:4 – 5                  What was in John the Apostle’s vision?
So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it. But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”
What was in John the Apostle’s vision? The Lion of Judah had prevailed.
Fr. 11/2/12: Revelation 5:6 – 7                  What else did John the Apostle see?
And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.
What else did John the Apostle see? The Lion of Judah was the Lamb of God.

The Word of God and Abram

Mo. 10/22/12: John 1:1 – 2                  Who visited Abram in a vision?
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.
Genesis 15:1
After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”
Who visited Abram in a vision? The Word of God, our Lord Jesus Christ, who would be Abram’s seed, who was Abram’s greatest reward!
Tu. 10/23/12: Genesis 15:2                  Was Abram confused?
But Abram said, “Lord GOD, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”
Was Abram confused? Yes, Abram did not grasp that the Giver was the Gift! He did not realize that the Word of God would be his heir
We. 10/24/12: Genesis 15:3 – 4                  What did the Word of God say?
Then Abram said, “Look, You have given me no offspring; indeed one born in my house is my heir!” And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.”
What did the Word of God say? Abram would have children.
Th. 10/25/12: Genesis 15:5 – 6                  What was Abram’s test?
Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”
And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.
What was Abram’s test? Abram could have doubted the Word of God; but he believed. Believing in Christ is the ultimate answer.
Fr. 10/26/12: Genesis 15:7                  Who is the Word of God?
Then He said to him, “I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it.”
Who is the Word of God? He identifies Himself as the Lord.

Altar and Sacrifice

Mo. 10/15/12: Genesis 12:7                  How did Abram respond?
Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” And there he built an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him.
How did Abram respond? Abram built an altar to sacrifice toGod and worship.
Tu. 10/16/12: Genesis 12:8                  Who did Abram call upon?
And he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.
Who did Abram call upon? After sacrifice he called upon the name of the Lord.
We. 10/17/12: Genesis 13:18                  What did Abram do after moving?
Then Abram moved his tent, and went and dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to the Lord.
What did Abram do after moving? It seems he built an altar for sacrifice and worship.
Th. 10/18/12: Genesis 22:9                  What did Abram put on the Altar?
Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, upon the wood.
What did Abram put on the Altar? Abraham’s faith allowed him to put his son on the altar; Issac’s faith allowed him to do so!
Fr. 10/19/12: Hebrews 13:10, 15                  What is our sacrifice?
We have an altar from which those who serve the tabernacle have no right to eat.
Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.
What is our sacrifice? We can only offer praise; the sacrifice is over.

Job Learns Salvation From God

Mo. 10/8/12: Job 38:1 – 2, 40:3 – 4                  What darkens God’s purposes?
Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:
      “Who is this who darkens counsel
      By words without knowledge?
Then Job answered the Lord and said:
      “Behold, I am vile;
      What shall I answer You?
      I lay my hand over my mouth.
What darkens God’s purposes? Counsel (purposes) are veiled by ideas.
Tu. 10/8/12: Job 40:6 – 8, 42:1, 3 – 6                  What was God’s purpose?
Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:
      Now prepare yourself like a man;
      I will question you, and you shall answer Me:
      Would you indeed annul My judgment?
      Would you condemn Me that you may be justified?
Then Job answered the Lord and said:
      You asked, ‘Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?’
      Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand,
      Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.
What was God’s purpose? God purposed to let His Son be our sacrifice.
We. 10/8/12: Job 40:9a, 10 – 11, 14                  What can save you?
(Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:)
      Have you an arm like God?
      Then adorn yourself with majesty and splendor,
      And array yourself with glory and beauty.
      Disperse the rage of your wrath;
      Look on everyone who is proud, and humble him.
      Then I will also confess to you
      That your own right hand can save you.
What can save you? God’s right hand (Jesus Christ) only can save you.
Th. 10/8/12: Job 42:1, 4b – 6                  What did Job see?
Then Job answered the Lord and said:
      You said, ‘I will question you, and you shall answer Me.’
      “I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear,
      But now my eye sees You.
      Therefore I abhor myself,
      And repent in dust and ashes.”
What did Job see? Job’s spiritual eye saw God’s Savior and he repented.
Fr. 10/8/12: Job 42:9                  What was Job’s position now?
So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as the Lord commanded them; for the Lord had accepted Job.
What was Job’s position now? Job was accepted by the Lord.
