Isaiah's Gospel, Part 2

Mo. 9/29/14: Isaiah 53:7 – 8                  Why did the Lamb die?
      He was oppressed and He was afflicted …
      He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,
      And as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
      So He opened not His mouth.
      For He was cut off from the land of the living;
      For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.
Why did the Lamb die? The Lamb died for the sins of God’s people.
Tu. 9/30/14: Isaiah 53:9 – 10                  Who will prolong His days?
      And … His grave with the wicked—But with the rich at His death,
      Because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth.
      When You make His soul an offering for sin,
      He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days,
      And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.
Who will prolong His days? God will raise the Lamb from the dead and so prolong His days.
We. 10/1/14: Isaiah 53:11 – 12                  Who will justify?
      He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied.
      By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many,
      For He shall bear their iniquities …
      Because He poured out His soul unto death,
      And He was numbered with the transgressors …
      And made intercession for the transgressors.
Who will justify? God’s righteous Servant will justify many by bearing away their sins.
Th. 10/2/14: Isaiah 55:1 – 2a                  Who will buy without money?
      “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters;
      And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat.
      Why do you spend money for what is not bread,
      And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Who will buy without money? Those who come believing shall buy without money.
Fr. 10/3/14: Isaiah 55:7 – 9                  Who will be pardoned?
      Let the wicked forsake his way,
      And the unrighteous man his thoughts;
      Let him return to the Lord, And He will have mercy on him;
      And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.
      “For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
      Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.

Who will be pardoned? Those who repent of their ways and return to the Lord will be pardoned.

Isaiahs Gospel 1st Part

Mo. 9/22/14: Isaiah 52:7                  What is the good news?
      How beautiful upon the mountains
      Are the feet of him who brings good news,
      Who proclaims salvation,
      Who says to Zion,
      “Your God reigns!”
What is the good news? The good news is God’s salvation.
Tu. 9/23/13: Isaiah 52:13 – 15a                  What is the bad news?
      Behold, My Servant shall deal prudently;
      He shall be exalted and extolled and be very high.
      Just as many were astonished at you,
      So His visage was marred more than any man,
      And His form more than the sons of men;
      So shall He sprinkle many nations.
What is the bad news? He was wounded to death.
We. 9/24/14: Isaiah 53:1 – 2                  What sounds improbable?
      Who has believed our report?
      And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
      For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant,
      And as a root out of dry ground.
      There is no beauty that we should desire Him.
What sounds improbable? His virgin birth: a plant grows in dry ground.
Th. 9/25/14: Isaiah 53:3 – 4                  What did He carry?
      He is despised and rejected by men,
      A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
      Surely He has borne our griefs
      And carried our sorrows;
      Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
      Smitten by God, and afflicted.
What did He carry? He carried my sins.
Fr. 9/26/14: Isaiah 53:5 –6                  Why was He wounded?
      But He was wounded for our transgressions,
      He was bruised for our iniquities;
      The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
      And by His stripes we are healed.
      All we like sheep have gone astray;
      We have turned, every one, to his own way;
      And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

Why was He wounded? His wounds bought our healing.

Four

Mo. 9/15/14: Zechariah 1:2 – 4            What do turn & return mean?
“The Lord has been very angry with your fathers. Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Return to Me,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I will return to you,” says the Lord of hosts. “Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets preached, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Turn now from your evil ways and your evil deeds.”’ But they did not hear nor heed Me,” says the Lord.
What do turn & return mean? Repentance is what they mean.
Tu. 9/16/14: Zechariah 1:17 – 19            What do horns involve?
“Again proclaim, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts:
      “My cities shall again spread out through prosperity;
      The Lord will again comfort Zion,
      And will again choose Jerusalem.”’”
Then I raised my eyes and looked, and there were four horns. And I said to the angel who talked with me, “What are these?” So he answered me, “These are the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.”
What do horns involve? Horns involve power.
We. 9/17/14: Zechariah 1:20 – 21            Who are the craftsmen?
Then the Lord showed me four craftsmen. And I said, “What are these coming to do?” So he said, “These are the horns that scattered Judah, so that no one could lift up his head; but the craftsmen are coming to terrify them, to cast out the horns of the nations that lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.”
Who are the craftsmen? The craftsmen will cast out the powers.
Th. 9/18/14: Zechariah 2:6 – 9            What do the winds do?
“Up, up! Flee from the land of the north,” says the Lord; “for I have spread you abroad like the four winds of heaven,” says the Lord. “Up, Zion! Escape, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon.”
For thus says the Lord of hosts: “He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye. For surely I will shake My hand against them, and they shall become spoil for their servants. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me.
What do the winds do? The winds will terrify the horns
Fr. 9/19/14: Revelation 21:1 – 3            What will God do?
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.

What will God do? God will live with believers.

The BRANCH

Isaiah 11:1 – 2                  Who is the Rod?
      There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse,
      And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.
      The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him,
      The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
      The Spirit of counsel and might,
      The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.
Who is the Rod? The Rod is a descendant of Jesse.
Jeremiah 33:14 – 16                  Who is the Branch?
‘Behold, the days are coming,’ says the Lord, ‘that I will perform that good thing which I have promised to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah:
      ‘In those days and at that time
      I will cause to grow up to David
      A Branch of righteousness;
      He shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.
      In those days Judah will be saved,
      And Jerusalem will dwell safely.
      And this is the name by which she will be called:
THE Lord OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.’
Who is the Branch? The Branch is a descendant of David.
Zechariah 3:8 –9                  What is the sign?
      ‘Hear, O Joshua, the high priest,
      You and your companions who sit before you,
      For they are a wondrous sign;
      For behold, I am bringing forth My Servant the BRANCH.
What is the sign? The sign is the BRANCH of God
2 Peter 1:1 – 4                  What is our faith?
Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord … that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
What is our faith? Our faith is the righteousness of Christ.
1 John 3:7 – 9a                  Why did the Son come?
Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous.
He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

Why did the Son come? The Son came to destroy the Devil’s work.

Why was He cut off? For My people.

We. 9/3/14: Isaiah 53:12a                   Is resurrection implied?
