Marriage, Part 2.

All cardinals are red; all cardinals fly: therefore all red things fly.

Why is this incorrect? The last statement works only on an IFF (IF and only iF) basis. All cardinals must be red AND all red things must be cardinals, etc.

Monday, September 28, 2009: Ephesians 5:33

Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Does this mean that a wife should expect that her husband love her as he loves himself? Or does it mean that a husband expect or demand submission or respect from his wife? This, the reverse, is NOT true and is unsupported in scripture. Each statement is a one-way statement and isn’t reversible.

Tuesday, September 29, 2009: Ephesians 5:22,24

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

Do wives submit to their husbands? Does the Church submit to Christ? This is the way it should be but is only partially true in reality

Wednesday, September 30, 2009: Ephesians 5:25,28

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her

So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.

Do husbands love their wives? It is said that a man marries a woman hoping she won’t change and a woman marries a man hoping to change him: it just doesn’t happen that way. But Christ loves the Church perfectly in both expression and demonstration.

Thursday, October 1, 2009: Ephesians 5:23,29

For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.

For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.

How does a husband establish his headship? The only way is by serving up the word of God. Tell husbands you know that my blog on workweekbible.blogspot.com can be used for five minutes after dinner to establish spiritual headship in his family.

Friday, October 2, 2009: Ephesians 5:30,32

For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.

This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Can you guess what the missing verse 31 quotes? It quotes Genesis 2:24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
