Holy One of Jacob (Israel)

I thank Ralph Johnson of West Virginia for these thoughts.

Monday, May 10, 2010: Numbers 16:6–7

Do this: Take censers, Korah and all your company; put fire in them and put incense in them before the Lord tomorrow, and it shall be that the man whom the Lord chooses is the holy one. You take too much upon yourselves, you sons of Levi!”

Background: Korah was the leader of a rebellion against Moses, God’s chosen deliverer.

Does it matter how we approach God? Yes, we only do this the way God wishes. Korah was swallowed up when the earth opened under him and all the rebels.

Tuesday, May 11, 2010: Deuteronomy 18:18–19

I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.

Background: these are Moses’ last prophetic words about God’s chosen deliverer from sin.

What would this prophet do? The coming deliverer would speak God’s words. Those who will not hear will be judged by God.

Wednesday, May 12, 2010: Isaiah 5:24

Therefore, as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, so their root will be as rottenness, and their blossom will ascend like dust; because they have rejected the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

What did Isaiah prophecy about Israel? They would reject the Holy one and will be scattered.

Thursday, May 13, 2010: Isaiah 49:7

Thus says the Lord, The Redeemer of Israel, their Holy One,

To Him whom man despises, to Him whom the nation abhors, to the Servant of rulers:

“Kings shall see and arise, Princes also shall worship, because of the Lord who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel; and He has chosen You.”

What was prophesied by Isaiah about the Holy One? He would be despised and rejected.

Friday, May 14, 2010: Isaiah 54:5

For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is His name; and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; He is called the God of the whole earth.

Who is this Holy One of Israel? He is God made flesh, our Redeemer: Jesus Christ the Lord.
