book Numbers?
Now the LORD spoke to Moses in the
Wilderness of Sinai, in the tabernacle of meeting, on the first day of the
second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt,
saying: "Take a census … and with you there shall be a man from every
tribe, each one the head of his father's house. These are the names of the men
who shall stand with you…
Why is the 4th book Numbers?
God told Moses to number Israel.
Tu. 7/2/13: Numbers 1:17 –
18 Who did God name?
Then Moses and Aaron took these men who
had been mentioned by name, and they assembled all the congregation together on
the first day of the second month; and they recited their ancestry by families,
by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years
old and above, each one individually.
Who did God name? God named twelve men as heads of their tribes.

46 How many were
numbered?
These are the ones who were numbered, whom
Moses and Aaron numbered, with the leaders of Israel, twelve men, each one representing
his father's house…all who were numbered were six hundred and three thousand
five hundred and fifty.
How many were numbered? Those numbered were 603,550.

49 Who were NOT
numbered?
But the Levites were not numbered among
them by their fathers' tribe; for the LORD had spoken to Moses, saying: "Only
the tribe of Levi you shall not number, nor take a census of them among the
children of Israel.
Who were NOT numbered? The Levites were not numbered.

After these things I looked, and behold, a
great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and
tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white
robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice,
saying, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the
Lamb!"
Who COULD NOT be numbered?
The multitude of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the
throne could not be numbered.
