Mo. 7/7/14: Ecclesiastes
1:12 – 18 What wisdom is
vain?
I,
the Preacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
And
I set my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all that is done
under heaven; this burdensome task God has given to the sons of man, by which
they may be exercised. I have seen all the works that are done under the sun;
and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.
What wisdom is
vain? Wisdom under the Sun is vain.
Tu., We. 7/8, 9/14:
Ecclesiastes 3:1 – 8 What is time’s
purpose?
To
everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:
A
time to be born, And a time to die;
A
time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted;
A
time to kill, And a time to heal;
A
time to break down, And a time to build up;
A
time to weep, And a time to laugh;
A
time to mourn, And a time to dance;
A
time to cast away stones, And a time to gather stones;
A
time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A
time to gain, And a time to lose;
A
time to keep, And a time to throw away;
A
time to tear, And a time to sew;
A
time to keep silence, And a time to speak;
A
time to love, And a time to hate;
A
time of war, And a time of peace.
What is time’s
purpose? Time’s purposes are in polar opposite pairs.
Th. 7/10/14: Ecclesiastes
5:6 What is a rash
promise?
Do
not let your mouth cause your flesh to sin, nor say before the messenger of God
that it was an error. Why should God be angry at your excuse and destroy the
work of your hands?
What is a rash
promise? A rash promise is made to God, but not kept.
Fr. 7/11/14: James 1:5 – 8 Who lacks real
wisdom?
If
any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and
without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with
no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by
the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the
Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
Who lacks real
wisdom? If you don’t ask God, you will lack true wisdom.
