Monday, September 27, 2010: Jeremiah 31:21 – 22 (NKJV)

“Set up signposts, Make landmarks;

Set your heart toward the highway, The way in which you went.

Turn back, O virgin of Israel, Turn back to these your cities.

How long will you gad about, O you backsliding daughter?

For the Lord has created a new thing in the earth— A woman shall encompass a man.”

What does ‘created a new thing on earth’ imply? Just what it says: Christ was born to a virgin.

Tuesday, September 28, 2010: Jeremiah 31:31 – 32 (NKJV)

“Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord.

When the Bible says that a day is coming, is this now about the past or future? Coupled with the previous verses in the same chapter, Jesus Christ would state, “This is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many. (Mark 14:24). But Israel has not yet accepted it as a nation.

And God spoke all these words, saying: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.

Deuteronomy 4:12 – 13 (NKJV)

And the Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire. You heard the sound of the words, but saw no form; you only heard a voice. So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone.

What was the old covenant that Israel and Judah broke? The Ten Commandments.

Thursday, September 30, 2010: Jeremiah 31:33 – 34 (NKJV)

But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

Why will the people of Israel and Judah Know God? God will have forgiven their iniquity and will remember their sins no more. This implies belief in Jesus Christ.

“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”

Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Can a person love one he/she doesn’t know and has never met? No.

Monday, September 20, 2010: Leviticus 16:1 – 2 (NKJV)

Now the Lord spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered profane fire before the Lord, and died; and the Lord said to Moses: “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at just any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark, lest he die; for I will appear in the cloud above the mercy seat.

Can God be approached by any way of man’s choosing? If it is God and not someone else, the answer is NO! God is holy and can only be approached by those who have their sins forgiven by faith.

Tuesday, September 21, 2010: Leviticus 19:12 (NKJV)

And you shall not swear by My name falsely, nor shall you profane the name of your God: I am the Lord.

Is swearing on God the same as profaning the name of God? No, it is not. Swearing falsely on God’s name is wrong and so is using God’s name in vain. (As an expression of surprise.)

Wednesday, September 22, 2010: Matthew 12:3 – 5 (NKJV)

But He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless?

Who can break the Sabbath and not be guilty? Sabbath was instituted in Exodus with manna, which rotted daily except on Friday night. Food stayed fresh without work for Saturday. Not working for food is the reinforcing bar that the foundation of faith is built on.

Thursday, September 23, 2010: 1 Timothy 4:7 – 8 (NKJV)

But reject profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness. For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.

What are profane and old wives’ fables? These could be traditions that have no value towards a godly life, which has eternal and temporal rewards.

Friday, September 24, 2010: Hebrews 12:14 – 16 (NKJV)

Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:

looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled; lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright.

What is the implication of a believer selling his birthright? If you are born from above, yours can be a life of faith. Some squander this opportunity by becoming bitter based on ego and a slight inflicted by someone in their Church. Such people stay from fellowship that can edify and fall into spiritual ruin.

Monday, September 13, 2010: 1 Thessalonians 4:13 – 14 (NKJV)

But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.

For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.

Why does Paul refer to ‘the word of the Lord’? Paul was not taught by man but God. These statements are the Word of God to Paul. He did not want the believers to be ignorant that the dead in Christ would rise first and then we who are alive in Christ would follow.

Tuesday, September 14, 2010: 1 Thessalonians 4:15 – 17 (NKJV)

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.

Is this a universal resurrection? No, it is for believers only. They shall rise to meet Him in the clouds, otherwise known as the first heaven.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010: 1 Corinthians 15:51 – 53 (NKJV)

Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

What happens at the last trumpet? The dead in Christ are raised incorruptible and we who are alive are changed to incorruption next.

Thursday, September 16, 2010: 1 Corinthians 15:54 – 57 (NKJV)

So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

“O Death, where is your sting?

O Hades, where is your victory?”

The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Is death defeated at this point? It is swallowed up in victory: the victor is Christ Himself.

Friday, September 17, 2010: Matthew 24:36 – 39 (NKJV)

“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

What is the implication of ‘My Father only’? This resurrection and rapture cannot occur after the tribulation: people will know that this lasts seven years.

“Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord,

“That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness;

A King shall reign and prosper,

And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.

In His days Judah will be saved,

And Israel will dwell safely;

Now this is His name by which He will be called:

THE Lord OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

What were some characteristics of the Branch? He was to be David’s descendant, a King, righteous, Lord our righteousness.

Wednesday, September 8, 2010: Psalm 80:15 – 17 (NKJV)

And the vineyard which Your right hand has planted,

And the branch that You made strong for Yourself.

It is burned with fire, it is cut down;

They perish at the rebuke of Your countenance.

Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand,

Upon the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself.

What were some characteristics of the Branch? Branch was from God’s vineyard, made strong by God, burned with fire and cut down, the right hand Man of God, the Son of man!

There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse,

And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.

The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him,

The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,

The Spirit of counsel and might,

The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

What was strange about this Family Tree of God? The Branch would grow from the root.

“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”

Who is the branch? Jesus Christ Himself.
