Lord, Son of David

Mo. 4/28/14: Matthew 20:29 – 30                  What was the supplication?
Now as they went out of Jericho, a great multitude followed Him. And behold, two blind men sitting by the road, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!
What was the supplication? The blind men called Him Lord, Son of David and asked for mercy, not healing!

Tu. 4/29/14: 2 Chronicles 17:3 – 4                  What was denied?
But it happened that night that the word of God came to Nathan, saying, “Go and tell My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: “You shall not build Me a house to dwell in.
What was denied? David was not the one to build the Temple.

We. 4/30/14: 2 Chronicles 17:5                  Where did His Shekinah dwell?
For I have not dwelt in a house since the time that I brought up Israel, even to this day, but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.
Where did His Shekinah dwell? His shekinah dwelt in a tabernacle.

Th. 5/1/14: 2 Chronicles 17:10b – 12                  What was God’s promise?
Furthermore I tell you that the Lord will build you a house. And … I will set up your seed after you, who will be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom.
What was God’s promise? God would build David’s house and kingdom.

Fr. 5/2/14: 2 Chronicles 17:13                  What kind of house and kingdom?
He shall build Me a house, and I will establish his throne forever.
What kind of house and kingdom? The blind men (Monday) realized that Jesus was the Christ, the One whose Kingdom was eternal!

Solomon's Prayer at the Temple

Mo. 4/21/14: 1 Kings 8:22 – 23                  What did Solomon do?
Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven; and he said: “Lord God of Israel, there is no God in heaven above or on earth below like You, who keep Your covenant and mercy with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts.
What did Solomon do? Solomon prayed before the Temple to God.
Tu. 4/22/14: 1 Kings 8:27                  What did Solomon realize?
“But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built!
What did Solomon realize? Solomon knew what the Temple was.
We. 4/23/14: 1 Kings 8:30                  What did Solomon plead for?
And may You hear the supplications of Your servant and of Your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. Hear from heaven Your dwelling place, and when You hear, forgive.
What did Solomon plead for? Solomon pleads for forgiveness.
Th. 4/24/14: 1 Ki. 8:41 – 43a                  What did Solomon also ask?
Moreover, concerning a foreigner, who is not of Your people Israel, but has come from a far country for Your name’s sake (for they will hear of Your great name and Your strong hand and Your outstretched arm), when he comes and prays toward this temple, hear in heaven Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You
What did Solomon also ask? Solomon asked for the faithful foreigner.
Fr. 4/25/14: John 4:21 – 26                  What did Christ explain?
Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.”
Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.
What did Christ explain? We worship in Spirit and Truth.

Solomon's achievement

Mo. 4/14/14: 2 Chronicles 5:1                  What was completed?
So all the work that Solomon had done for the house of the Lord was finished; and Solomon brought in the things which his father David had dedicated: the silver and the gold and all the furnishings. And he put them in the treasuries of the house of God.
What was completed? Solomon completed the Temple at Jerusalem.
Tu. 4/15/14: 2 Chronicles 5:2 – 3                  Who were assembled?
Now Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the chief fathers of the children of Israel, in Jerusalem, that they might bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord up from the City of David, which is Zion. Therefore all the men of Israel assembled with the king at the feast, which was in the seventh month.
Who were assembled? Solomon brought together all the leaders of Israel and Judah.
We. 4/16/14: 2 Chronicles 5:4 – 6                  Who moved the Ark?
So all the elders of Israel came, and the Levites took up the ark. Then they brought up the ark, the tabernacle of meeting, and all the holy furnishings that were in the tabernacle. The priests and the Levites brought them up. Also King Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel who were assembled with him before the ark, were sacrificing sheep and oxen that could not be counted or numbered for multitude.
Who moved the Ark? Only the Levites moved the Ark of the Covenant.
Th. 4/17/14: 2 Chronicles 5:7 – 8                  Where was the Ark placed?
Then the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the Lord to its place, into the inner sanctuary of the temple, to the Most Holy Place, under the wings of the cherubim. For the cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim overshadowed the ark and its poles.
Where was the Ark placed? The Ark was brought and placed into the holiest of holies.
Fr. 4/18/14: 2 Chronicles 5:9a, 13b – 14                  What happened then?
And it came to pass when the priests came out of the Most Holy Place … that the house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.
What happened then? The ‘shekinah’ glory of God filled the place.

God's Ideal Woman

(A little early, and no comments needed this week: I go into surgery today)
Mo. 4/7/14: Proverbs 31:10 – 15                  God’s ideal woman
Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies.
The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain.
She does him good and not evil All the days of her life.
She seeks wool and flax, And willingly works with her hands.
She is like the merchant ships, She brings her food from afar.
She also rises while it is yet night, And provides food for her household,
And a portion for her maidservants.

Tu. 4/8/14: Proverbs 31:16 – 22                  God’s ideal woman
She considers a field and buys it; From her profits she plants a vineyard.
She girds herself with strength, And strengthens her arms.
She perceives that her merchandise is good, And her lamp does not go out by night.
She stretches out her hands to the distaff, And her hand holds the spindle.
She extends her hand to the poor, Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.
She is not afraid of snow for her household, For all her household is clothed with scarlet.
She makes tapestry for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and purple.

We. 4/9/14: Proverbs 31:23                  God’s ideal woman
Her husband is known in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the land.

Th. 4/10/14: Proverbs 31:24 – 27                  God’s ideal woman
She makes linen garments and sells them, And supplies sashes for the merchants.
Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come.
She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness.
She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness.

Fr. 4/11/14: Proverbs 31:28 – 31                  God’s ideal woman
Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many daughters have done well, But you excel them all.”
Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.

Give her of the fruit of her hands, And let her own works praise her in the gates.
