Ungodly Men

Background: Jude, the half brother of Jesus Christ, did not believe in Him till after the resurrection. Jude’s letter validates being ‘saved’ as having belief that Christ paid for our sins. The rest of his short letter is a warning against certain ungodly men who creep into the assembly of believers to destroy. BEWARE!

Monday, June 14, 2010: Jude 4

For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.

What do these ungodly men do? These men take salvation as a license to commit sexual sin and deny Jesus Christ who paid for sins.

Tuesday, June 15, 2010: Jude 8, 10

Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries.

But these speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves.

What are some additional characteristics by which we can recognize these ungodly men? They commit sins against their own bodies, criticize authorities and corrupt the natural part of themselves.

Wednesday, June 16, 2010: Jude 12–13

These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots; raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.

What are their relational distinctives? During a love feast, they serve only themselves, not others. They don’t contribute, or help with the cleanup but speak without fear against others.

Thursday, June 17, 2010: Jude 16

These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage.

How do these ungodly men create dissension? They complain about some and use flattery to sway those they wish to befriend.

Friday, June 18, 2010: Jude 19

These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.

What is possibly the worst effect of these ungodly men? They cause a split-up in a local group of believers.
