Scepter

Monday, April 18, 2011: Hebrews 1:8 (NKJV)
But to the Son He says:
      “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever;
      A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.
Psalm 45:6 –7 (NKJV)
      Your throne, O God, is forever and ever;
      A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.
      You love righteousness and hate wickedness;
      Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You
      With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.
Who is the Son greater than? Angels. This is a passage in Hebrews 1 where a reference is made to Psalms.

Tuesday, April 19: Numbers 24:15 – 17
So he took up his oracle and said:
      “The utterance of Balaam the son of Beor,
      And the utterance of the man whose eyes are opened;
      The utterance of him who hears the words of God,
      And has the knowledge of the Most High,
      Who sees the vision of the Almighty,
      Who falls down, with eyes wide open:
      “I see Him, but not now;
      I behold Him, but not near;
      A Star shall come out of Jacob;
      A Scepter shall rise out of Israel,
      And batter the brow of Moab,
      And destroy all the sons of tumult.
Who is the subject of this prophecy? It is the One born King, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Wednesday, April 20, 2011: Genesis 49:10
      The scepter shall not depart from Judah,
      Nor a lawgiver from between his feet,
      Until Shiloh comes;
      And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.
Who’s Shiloh? It is the Lord Jesus Christ who will be a descendant of Judah.

Thursday, April 21, 2011: Ezekiel 21:8 – 10
Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Son of man, prophesy and say, ‘Thus says the Lord!’ Say:
      ‘A sword, a sword is sharpened
      And also polished!
      Sharpened to make a dreadful slaughter,
      Polished to flash like lightning!
      Should we then make mirth?
      It despises the scepter of My son,
      As it does all wood.
Who is the subject of this prophecy? The nation of Judah would soon go into captivity under Babylon.

Friday, April 22, 2011: Esther 8:3 –4 (NKJV)
Now Esther spoke again to the king, fell down at his feet, and implored him with tears to counteract the evil of Haman the Agagite, and the scheme which he had devised against the Jews. And the king held out the golden scepter toward Esther. So Esther arose and stood before the king
What was the rule of the scepter during Esther’s time? If the King did not raise the golden scepter to the supplicant, immediate execution followed!
