The sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

Now the first lot fell to … the eighth to Abijah

There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah. His wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

Who was Zacharias? Zacharias was a priest from the line of Abijah, of Eleazar, of Aaron.

Now his (John the Baptist’s) father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:

      “And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest;

      For you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways,

      To give knowledge of salvation to His people

      By the remission of their sins

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water.”

And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”

the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.

What were Joseph and Mary’s lineage? Joseph was of Solomon and Mary was of Nathan, both of whom were sons of David through Bathsheeba.
