Wisdom

Mo. 10/1/12: Job 28:12, 15, 19 – 20                  Where is wisdom?
“But where can wisdom be found?
And where is the place of understanding?
It cannot be purchased for gold,
Nor can silver be weighed for its price.
The topaz of Ethiopia cannot equal it,
Nor can it be valued in pure gold.
“From where then does wisdom come?
And where is the place of understanding?
Where is wisdom? Wisdom cannot be found nor purchased for any price.
Tu. 10/2/12: Job 28:27 – 28                  What is wisdom?
      Then He (God) saw wisdom and declared it;
He prepared it, indeed, He searched it out.
      And to man He said,
‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom,
And to depart from evil is understanding.’
What is wisdom? Wisdom is the fear of the Lord.
We. 10/3/12: Psalm 90:10, 12                  How can we become wise?
      The days of our lives are seventy years;
And if by reason of strength they are eighty years,
      Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow;
So teach us to number our days,
That we may gain a heart of wisdom.
How can we become wise? Seeing death gives us a heart of wisdom.
Th. 10/4/12: Proverbs 2:10 – 11                  What is wisdom’s gift?
      When wisdom enters your heart,
And knowledge is pleasant to your soul,
      Discretion will preserve you;
      Understanding will keep you
What is wisdom’s gift? Wisdom preserves us.
Fr. 10/5/12: Colossians 2:2 – 3                  Where is wisdom hidden?
that their (the church of Laodicea’s) hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Where is wisdom hidden? Wisdom is a treasure hidden in Christ!

Fear & Dread: the difference

Mo. 9/24/12: Genesis 9:1 – 2                   What was God’s 2nd blessing to Noah?
So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hand.
What was God’s 2nd blessing to Noah? The fear and dread of man was on all the rest of God’s living creation.
Tu. 9/25/12: Job 13:20 – 21                  What was Job’s dread?
“Only two things do not do to me,
Then I will not hide myself from You:
Withdraw Your hand far from me,
And let not the dread of You make me afraid.
What was Job’s dread? Job asks that he be unafraid the dread of God. Instead of dread, or anticipating fear, Job foresaw eternal life with God.
We. 9/26/12: Romans 8:15                  What have we received?
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
What have we received? Adopted into God’s family, we do not fear but anticipate eternal life in heaven.
Th. 9/27/12: Hebrews 13:6                  What are we free from?
So we may boldly say:
      “The Lord is my helper;
      I will not fear.
What can man do to me?”
What are we free from? We are free from the dread of men.
Fr. 9/28/12: 2 Corinthians 11:3                  What was Paul’s fear?
But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
What was Paul’s fear? Paul feared that the simplicity of the Gospel would be corrupted by complications of the law.

Remember me

Mo. 9/17/12: Judges 16:27 – 28 (NKJV)                  What was Samson’s cry?
Now the temple was full of men and women. All the lords of the Philistines were there—about three thousand men and women on the roof watching while Samson performed. Then Samson called to the Lord, saying, “O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray! Strengthen me, I pray, just this once, O God, that I may with one blow take vengeance on the Philistines for my two eyes!”
What was Samson’s cry? Samson’s cry was for forgiveness and strength from God, not from hair!
Tu. 9/18/12: Job 14:13 – 14 (NKJV)                  What was Job’s cry?
Oh, that You would hide me in the grave,
That You would conceal me until Your wrath is past,
That You would appoint me a set time, and remember me!
If a man dies, shall he live again?
All the days of my hard service I will wait,
      Till my change comes.
What was Job’s cry? Job’s cry was for his faith in the resurrection.
We. 9/19/12: Nehemiah 13:30 – 31 (NKJV)                  What was Nehemiah’s cry?
Thus I cleansed them of everything pagan. I also assigned duties to the priests and the Levites, each to his service, and to bringing the wood offering and the firstfruits at appointed times. Remember me, O my God, for good!
What was Nehemiah’s cry? Nehemiah’s cry was for cleansing the Temple by God’s leading.
Th. 9/20/12: Psalm 106:4 – 5 (NKJV)                  What was the Psalmist’s cry?
Remember me, O Lord, with the favor You have toward Your people.
Oh, visit me with Your salvation,
That I may see the benefit of Your chosen ones,
That I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation,
That I may glory with Your inheritance
What was the Psalmist’s cry? The Psalmist’s cry was for God’s salvation, not by earned right.
Fr. 9/21/12: Luke 23:42 – 43 (NKJV)                  What was the thief’s cry?
Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.
What was the thief’s cry? The dying thief’s cry was for his belief in the kingdom of Jesus Christ!

Pleasing

Mo. 9/10/12: Job 1:6 – 8                  Why was God pleased with Job?
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them.
And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?”
So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”
Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?”
Why was God pleased with Job? Job was unimpeachable (blameless) and still feared God.
Tu. 9/11/12: Proverbs 16:7                   What does pleasing God do?
When a man’s ways please the Lord,
He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
What does pleasing God do? Your enemies will be at peace with you!
We. 9/12/12: Colossians 3:20                  What is sure to please God?
Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.
What is sure to please God? Obeying parents is sure to please God.
Th. 9/13/12: Hebrews 13:20 – 21                  What do good works do?
Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
What do good works do? If our good works serve the will of God, it is well pleasing in His sight.
Fr. 9/14/12: Hebrews 11:6                  What cannot please God?
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
What cannot please God? Without faith you cannot please God.

Pleased

Tower!

Mo. 9/3/12 Genesis 11:1 – 4                   What did the brick builders do?
Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there. Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar. And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”
What did the brick builders do? They wished to reach God on their own terms.
Tu. 9/4/12 Genesis 11:5 – 7                  What did the Godhead do?
But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. And the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them. Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”
What did the Godhead do? They took man’s nature to name things and confused their vocabulary. This disunited the people.
We. 9/5/12 Genesis 11:8 – 9                  What did the Lord then do?
So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city. Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.
What did the Lord then do? He scattered the people far and wide. They stopped building the way to heaven.
Th. 9/6/12 Proverbs 16:25                  What do people still do?
There is a way that seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death.
What do people still do? They try to get to God but it ends in separation.
Fr. 9/7/12 John 14:6 – 7                  What (Who) is the only way?
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”
What (Who) is the only way? Jesus Christ, God’s Son is the Way!
