The Journey Home

Luke 24:13, 15-16 The Journey Home

Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was seven miles from Jerusalem.

So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him.

Mon. 3/31/08 Restrained

Background: Two disciples return home 3 days after the death of the Lord Jesus Christ.

What was the Lord's purpose in walking with them?

Does the Lord have to do the same with me?

What restraints have I (or others) put on my eyes of faith?

Luke 24:19-20,24

So they said to Him, "The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and crucified Him.

And certain of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but Him they did not see."

Tue. 4/1/08 Skeptics

Background: The Lord Jesus asks what they are animatedly speaking about.

Could eyewitnesses to miracles loose faith in three days?

Were the two skeptical about the women's report or those who went to verify it?

Luke 24:25-26

Then He said to them, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?"

Wed 4/2/08 Foolish

Why is 'foolish' appropriate (or not) as a characterization of the two disciples?

Who could the prophets have been?

What is a picture in the Old Testament of sin and suffering?

Luke 24:30-31

Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight.

Thu. 4/3/08 Illuminated

Who was the host and who was the guest?

Why was it fitting that the Lord Jesus blessed and broke the bread?

What did they see when they took the broken bread? His hands?

Why did He vanish from their sight?

Luke 24:32

And they said to one another, "Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?"

Fri. 4/4/08 Unlocked

What caused heartburn in the two disciples?

Is the Lord speaking to you on the road? What is your road?

Do you open the Bible or does someOne open it to you?
