Revelation, not Revelations.

Monday, November 21, 2010: Revelation 1:1 – 2 (NKJV)

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw.

Who revealed what (Let us be sure) to whom? This is Jesus Christ’s Revelation, given to Him by God, to show His servants (us) what is to come.

Tuesday, November 22, 2010: Revelation 1:3 (NKJV)

Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.

What does ‘keeping the written words’ mean? This is not law that we follow, but words to read and understand as the Holy Spirit imparts wisdom to us. Even hearing the words brings God’s blessings.

Wednesday, November 23, 2010: Revelation 1:4 – 5a (NKJV)

John, to the seven churches which are in Asia:

Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth.

Who imparts grace and peace? The triune God: the Eternal Father, the Holy Spirit (referred to here as sevenfold) and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thanksgiving, November 24, 2010: Revelation 1:5b – 7 (NKJV)

To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.

What has Christ done and what will He do? He loved us, washed away our sins in His blood and has made us a kingdom of priests (alternate translation) to God. And there is a promise of His return with every soul watching.

Friday, November 25, 2010: Revelation 1:17 – 18 (NKJV)

And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.

What is the surprise in the statement? We mortals say, “I shouldn’t be alive!” He, the ever-living One, says “and was dead!” He tasted death for us that we might live for evermore.
