The Holy Spirit equations

Monday, May 9, 2011: John 3:6 – 7 (NKJV)
That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’
What is Jesus Christ equating in these verses? Being born again equals being born of the Holy Spirit.
Monday, May 10, 2011: Romans 8:14 – 15 (NKJV)
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
What is the equation in these verses? Being led by the Holy Spirit equals being a son of God.
Monday, May 11, 2011: Romans 8:9 (NKJV)
But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
What is the equation in these verses? Being in the Holy Spirit equals the holy Spirit of God dwells in you.
Monday, May 12, 2011: Galatians 3:2 (NKJV)
This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
What is the equation in these verses? Being born again equals receiving the Holy Spirit.
Monday, May 13, 2011: Ephesians 1:13 – 14 (NKJV)
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
What is the equation in these verses? Becoming a believer equals being sealed with the Holy Spirit.

Valley of Dry Bones

Monday, February 14, 2011: Ezekiel 37:1-3

The hand of the Lord came upon me and brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones. Then He caused me to pass by them all around, and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and indeed they were very dry. And He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”

What did the Hand of the Lord do? Ezekiel was displaced without movement.

Tuesday, February 15, 2011: Ezekiel 37:4-6

So I answered, “O Lord GOD, You know.”

Again He said to me, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: “Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. I will put sinews on you and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you; and you shall live. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.”’”

What would God do? God would change the dead bones into bodies.

Wednesday, February 16, 2011: Ezekiel 37:7-8

So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and suddenly a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to bone. Indeed, as I looked, the sinews and the flesh came upon them, and the skin covered them over; but there was no breath in them.

How important is ‘but’? Without the Breath of the Spirit, there is no life.

Thursday, February 17, 2011: Ezekiel 37:9-10

Also He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.”’” So I prophesied as He commanded me, and breath came into them, and they lived, and stood upon their feet, an exceedingly great army.

Does Israel today have breath? No, in my opinion, it doesn’t.

Friday, February 18, 2011: Ezekiel 37:11-14

Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They indeed say, ‘Our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off!’ Therefore prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, O My people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up from your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. Then you shall know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves, O My people, and brought you up from your graves. I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken it and performed it,” says the Lord.’”

What is breath analogous to? Birth or rebirth. Do you have breath?

The Helper

Monday, March 8, 2010: John 14:16-17
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
Background: These chapters, John 14, 15 and 16 are called the Upper Room Ministry of the Jesus Christ to his disciples before His crucifixion.
Why is this passage one of comfort? The word Helper is also translated Comforter and means One who is to be by your side.

Tuesday, March 9, 2010: John 14:26
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
Who is this Helper, who sends Him and how will He help us? He is the Holy Spirit sent by the Father who reminds us of all things Jesus Christ said.

Wednesday, March 10, 2010: John 15:26
“But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.
Who sends the Helper and what is His testimony? Jesus Christ will send Him to us from the Father and He will testify of Jesus Christ.

Thursday, March 11, 2010: John 16:7
Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
What is implicit in this part of Jesus Christ’s words? His resurrection.

Friday, March 12, 2010: 1 John 2:1
My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
Background: John writes three letters and the book of Revelation later in his life.
Who is also our Helper in Heaven and how does He help us? The resurrected Jesus Christ is our Advocate, another form from the same word in Greek. He pleads our case for our sins before the Father in heaven.
